The National Marine Trades Curriculum (NMTC) is structured to provide entry-level training across a broad selection of marine skilled trades in a step-wise, logically consistent fashion designed to facilitate the process of sound career selection.  Also included are workplace experience components with specific activities to practice and augment classroom-based skills.  Each module requires varying commitments of classroom, shop and field experience.

Divided into curricular modules, the training covers: 

    1. Shop and boatyard safety
    2. Boating safety, handling and navigation
    3. Marlinspike seamanship
    4. Boat design and construction
    5. Fiberglass construction and repair
    6. Outboard engine systems
    7. Inboard, inboard/outboard and diesel engine systems
    8. All marine systems (e.g., plumbing, sanitation, steering, etc.)
    9. Metal working
    10. Wood joinery
    11. Marine finishes
    12. Marina operations and yard services
    13. Vessel transportation and storage
